Zanate is a wearable sculpture of a mythical black bird inspired by the Great-tailed grackle. Through this vessel, I explore migration, transformation, and survival, using the symbolic presence of the grackle to evoke adaptability, noise, and collective movement across landscapes.
Native to Mexico and the Southwestern United States, and known as teozanatl in Náhuatl, Zanate embodies a trickster archetype in mythology. This wearable piece reflects on diasporic identity, positioning the body as a profound site of memory, resilience, and becoming.
